SUPPORT YOUR TEEN THROUGH THIS DARK TIME
Ways To Help Your Teen
Parents can help a teen who is self-harming by creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where they feel comfortable talking about their emotions. Listen with empathy, take their feelings seriously, and avoid reacting with anger, punishment, or criticism, as this may make them less likely to seek help. Encourage your teen to work with a licensed mental health professional who can help them develop healthy coping strategies and address the underlying causes of their distress. Stay involved in their recovery, check in regularly, and remind them that they are loved, supported, and do not have to face their struggles alone.
