Signs & Symptoms

Common signs and symptoms of bulimia nervosa include recurring episodes of binge eating followed by behaviors such as self-induced vomiting, excessive exercise, fasting, or misuse of laxatives to prevent weight gain. Other signs may include frequent trips to the bathroom after meals, swollen cheeks or jaw, sore throat, dental problems from stomach acid, preoccupation with weight or body shape, and noticeable changes in eating habits or mood. Teens with bulimia may also experience fatigue, dehydration, and withdrawal from friends or family.
